Gottesgedanken

This volume's essays seek to reveal the answers that during their early days in the antique world Judaism, Christianity and Islam gave to fundamental questions of existence: what can we know of God, what can we hope for, what ought we do? The collection, which is the result of a six-year interdisciplinary research project, sets out the authoritative tradition of each at a time when inter-religion discussions are again becoming terse. The growing mistrust between the cultures and religions and the increasingly questionable possibility of peaceful coexistence can only be dealt with through better mutual understanding and, above all, against the background of a shared past.
